Seating runs along the sides, limo-style, so the group faces each other. Most come with a premium sound system and LED accent lighting. Size depends on the build. Up to 14 fit in a Sprinter limo, more in larger builds.

Luggage space is minimal. That is the trade. You get room to move, not room for bags.

Best uses

Weddings, birthdays and celebrations, nightlife and proms. A party bus works best as a route: pickup, a few stops, drop-off. The vehicle waits at each stop, and the waiting is part of the price. Send the stops in advance.

For a wedding, a party bus for the couple and wedding party can work alongside a coach or minibus for guests.

The licence and the rules

Once the vehicle is built to carry 16 or more, the driver needs a passenger-endorsed CDL. Alcohol rules vary by state. Open alcohol is never allowed for the driver, and some cities, such as Nashville, ban it on unenclosed party vehicles. Ask what applies before the night.

Planning the night

Set a pickup address, a list of stops and a latest drop-off time. The latest drop-off is the one that matters. Nights run late, and every extra hour adds to the price. Pick one person to deal with the driver. For a prom, share the route and the operator's details with parents, and agree that the bus goes only to the listed stops.
