Miami airport charter bus rental for groups
Groups booking a charter bus at MIA are usually going one of three places: a hotel, the convention center, or a ship. Here is how the pickup works and what changes on cruise day.
Charter bus pickups on Level 1 at MIA
MIA has North, Central and South Terminals. Ground transportation is outside the terminal, on Level 1. Your group takes its bags down to Level 1. For a coach, the driver confirms the exact door with you before the day. Pick one contact who calls the driver once everyone is together. If the group lands in more than one terminal, choose one meeting point on Level 1 and move people to it. One stop at a busy curb beats two.

Where your driver meets you
- Ground transportation on Level 1 outside terminal; cruise buses at Concourse D Door 1 and Concourse J Door 33.
Drive to downtown
- about 8 miles, 15-30 min
Cruise day: MIA to PortMiami
PortMiami is about 7 to 9 miles from MIA. Cruise buses load at Door 1 on Concourse D and Door 33 on Concourse J. At the port, the operator needs an active PortMiami business permit, a GTS Go-Pass transponder and, for motorcoaches, a USDOT/FMCSA MC number. That is the operator's job, not yours.
Most cruise lines also sell MIA-to-port transfers. A private charter bus rental makes sense when your group wants to leave together, on its own schedule, with its own stop on the way. Tell us the ship and terminal.
Miami, Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale
Downtown is about 8 miles, 15 to 30 minutes. Groups head for Brickell, South Beach, Doral, Coral Gables or up to Fort Lauderdale Beach. If your group sails from Port Everglades, FLL is the closer airport. Port Everglades is about 27 miles from MIA.
Cruise luggage and vehicle size
From the Central Terminal, the MIA Mover reaches the Miami Intermodal Center and the Rental Car Center. Metrorail and Tri-Rail connect at the Intermodal Center. That works for a few people. A group with cruise luggage needs luggage space. A 45-foot motorcoach has about 440 to 460 cubic feet in its under-floor bays. A minibus has far less, so count bags before you pick a size.
Questions
Where does a cruise group board the bus at MIA?
Door 1 on Concourse D, or Door 33 on Concourse J. The driver confirms which door with your group contact.
How long from MIA to PortMiami?
About 15 to 30 minutes. Allow more on a busy embarkation morning.
Should we fly into MIA or FLL for a Port Everglades cruise?
FLL, at about 2 miles from Port Everglades. From MIA it is about 27 miles.
We fly in the day before the cruise. How do we book that?
Book two trips together: MIA to the hotel on arrival day, then the hotel to PortMiami on sailing morning. One quote can cover both, and the operator plans the port run with your ship and terminal.
