Coach & Minibus USA

Minibus rental for 16 to 19 passengers

A minibus is the in-between vehicle: too many people for an SUV, not enough for a coach. It works best on short local runs.

What a minibus is

A minibus seats 16 to 19. It is built as a cutaway body on a Chevrolet or Ford chassis. Passenger seat belts come on many models, and wheelchair-lift floor plans are available. Luggage space is limited. Only some floor plans include a rear luggage area.

Because it carries 16 or more, counting the driver, it needs a driver with a passenger-endorsed CDL. The operator supplies a driver who holds one.

Typical models

The photos show typical models in this size. Which vehicle runs depends on the licensed operator that takes the booking.

Where a minibus works best

Airport shuttles for groups with carry-ons. Wedding guest shuttles. Church groups going across town. Local events. A minibus is easier than a coach at a tight hotel entrance or a country wedding venue.

It also helps where long buses are restricted. Muir Woods refuses vehicles over 35 feet. In New Orleans, an oversize permit is needed for buses 31 feet or longer in the French Quarter. A shorter vehicle skips the permit, though it still keeps to the signed bus routes.

Where it doesn't

Count bags. A cruise group of 16 with two suitcases each will not fit its luggage in a minibus. Book a midsize coach instead. On long highway runs, most groups are more comfortable in a coach with reclining seats and a restroom.

Running a shuttle loop with a minibus

A minibus is the usual vehicle for a loop between two points: hotel and venue, parking lot and ceremony. With 16 to 19 seats it clears a small crowd in one run. For a loop, tell us the guest count, both addresses, and the first and last run times. We work out how many trips fit the window, and whether a second vehicle is needed.
