The full-size motorcoach is the workhorse of charter bus rental. It carries the most people and the most bags. It also has the most places it cannot go.
What a motorcoach carries
A motorcoach seats 49 to 59, and a double-decker about 80. On a 45-foot coach, under the floor are luggage bays of about 440 to 460 cubic feet, plus overhead racks inside. That is enough for a full group with suitcases on a cruise transfer or a week-long school tour.
Most have a restroom, reclining seats and 3-point seat belts. USB ports at the seats are common. WiFi is optional, and so is a wheelchair lift with two tie-downs. If any of those matter, say so in the request. We ask for a coach that has them, and you check the quote before you accept.

Where a 45-foot coach cannot go
A motorcoach is about 45 feet long. Some places are closed to it. Muir Woods refuses vehicles over 35 feet. New Orleans requires a permit for buses 31 feet or longer in the French Quarter, and buses over 20 seats are banned from the Garden District. San Francisco restricts large passenger vehicles on listed streets. Storrow Drive in Boston is closed to buses.
Hotel driveways are the everyday problem. Not every hotel can take a full-size coach at the front door. Give us the exact address, and find out from the hotel where a coach can stop.
When a motorcoach is the right choice
Book a motorcoach for groups over about 40, for interstate trips, for teams with gear and for cruise transfers. For 30 people with little luggage, a midsize coach is often easier to place and just as comfortable. For long days, check driver hours. After 8 hours off, the most a driver may drive is 10 hours, and nothing is allowed past 15 hours on duty.

Yes. Interstate trips are one of its main uses. The operator needs a USDOT number and FMCSA operating authority, and a regulated bus displays its USDOT number and carrier name on each side.
